Gummy Smile

Your smile is an important feature of your face. It is usually the very first thing that others notice about you. When you think of the perfect smile, what comes to mind? For many people, they tend to focus on the appearance of the teeth, how white and straight they are as well as their size and shape. However, even if your teeth are perfect, your gums can detract from the beauty of your smile. Excess gum tissue can lead to a gummy smile, an issue that causes your teeth to appear quite small. At Dr Liu Family Dental, we can help to improve the quality of your smile with an aesthetic gum lift.

What is an Aesthetic Gum Lift?

Even if your teeth are straight, white, and free from other blemishes, your smile might not be what you were hoping for. This is because your teeth are not the only factor in your smile. Your teeth also play an integral role. Excess gum tissue can leave you with what is called a gummy smile, which causes your otherwise perfect teeth to appear unnaturally small. An aesthetic gum lift is a minimally invasive procedure that is performed to remove excess gum tissue and sculpt a more natural, aesthetic gum line. In doing so, we help to enhance the beauty of your smile and boost your confidence.

What to Expect During an Aesthetic Gum Lift

Traditionally, an aesthetic gum lift has been done using a scalpel. This small metal tool is effective, but also causes bleeding, as well as pain and swelling after the procedure is complete. Today, we can provide you with high-quality, effective treatment using a dental laser. The laser uses a thin, concentrated beam of light. The light cuts your tissue and cauterizes it at the same time, limiting bleeding. It provides pinpoint accuracy, allowing us to target only the necessary tissue while reducing tissue trauma. Because of this, pain and swelling are greatly reduced.

Your aesthetic gum lift is performed under a local anesthetic, which helps to ensure that you do not feel any discomfort during the procedure. Small incisions are made in your gums, which allow us to separate the tissue from your teeth. Next, the laser is used to remove the necessary tissue. Depending upon your situation, we may also need to remove a small amount of bone tissue. This can be done by adjusting the wavelength of the laser. No matter how many teeth are being treated, we also treat the gums over the adjacent teeth as well. This helps to provide a more natural appearance. Once your treatment is complete, your gums are sutured back against your teeth.

Benefits of an Aesthetic Gum Lift

There are many benefits that come with an aesthetic gum lift. These benefits include:
•  Immediately noticeable results.
•  The quality of your smile is improved. By removing excess tissue, we uncover more of the surface area of your teeth, helping you to achieve the smile you have been looking for.
•  Boosted confidence.
•  Improving your oral health. In addition to improving the quality of your smile, an aesthetic gum lift also helps to improve your oral health. Removing excess gum tissue helps to eliminate hiding places for oral bacteria. This helps to reduce your risk of developing gum disease.

By removing excess gum tissue and reshaping your gum line, we can help you to achieve a beautiful, confident smile. For more information, and to find out if you are a candidate for an aesthetic gum lift, contact Dr Liu Family Dental today at 425-310-5789.
