Oral Cancer Screening

EDMONDS, WA

An average of 54,000 Americans will be diagnosed with some form of oral cancer per year. Out of these, approximately 9,540 die from their diagnosis. As with any health issue, catching it early helps to lessen the chance of mortality. At our practice, we make it our promise to incorporate an oral cancer screening into your biannual dental checkup. Dr. Liu will check your gums, tongue, cheeks, and neck for any abnormalities including growths, open wounds, or discoloration that could indicate a possible problem.

WHY AN ORAL CANCER SCREENING?

Historically, oral cancer has been commonly associated with smoking or alcohol use. Patients who regularly engage in substance use should be checked more frequently for signs of oral cancer. However, 1 in 4 oral cancer patients do not have a history of substance use, which is why Dr. Liu incorporates the screening into your biannual dental examination. Taking less than five minutes, an oral cancer screening is performed through visual inspection with a tongue depressor and a scope. This painless inspection can save you from more detrimental issues in the future, please contact Dr. Raymond Liu at (425) 771-2100 for more information.
