Periodontal maintenance is more than just a cleaning. If Dr. Liu has discussed a plan for Periodontal Maintenance with you, this is serious. Periodontal disease is never cured, it is maintained, meaning you will need to be carefully under Dr. Liu's care with regular appointments and specific instructions for at-home care. Once damage has occurred to your bone it is generally permanent and the resulting effects, you may have heard the term pockets, are impossible to keep clean with just home maintenance like flossing or brushing.

You may be asked to schedule frequent office visits, the amount is based per patient. Most of our Periodontal patients are able to stay healthy when they schedule maintenance visits at three-month intervals.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY PERIODONTAL MAINTENANCE VISIT?

Each periodontal maintenance visit includes cleaning and disinfecting both above and below the gums. We will then measure your bone level and periodically take digital X-rays. If we detect an area that has relapsed, we can treat the area, before it becomes a bigger problem. If Raymond Liu, DDS, determines that there is no change, that means your periodontal disease is controlled which is what we hope to see.
